“The South’s Most Stunning”

Design Prompt: Design a 14 page spread based on a piece of Georgia Tech history.

This final project for my graphic design class required a comprehensive application of core graphic design principles, including the strategic use of grid systems, effective utilization of negative space, and intentional design choices. For my visual spread, I chose to explore the historical significance and architectural details of Brittain Dining Hall.

Takeaway:

Intent Before Aesthetic

After

In the original design, the text is presented in a long column with no breaks in between. There was little to no intentionality behind the form of the text, and therefore in my iteration I thought about how to maximize readability while also making sure the design was balanced.

Takeaway:

Simplicity Isn’t Basic—It’s Strategic

For the design spread below, I wanted to convey the content about Daisy Daniels through a post card. In my original design, I had found a stock photo of a letter and decided the rest of my design based on the photo. In my iteration, I wanted to see if there was a simpler but smarter way to get the essence of the post card.
